Thoughts on Halo Wars
So I tried out the Halo Wars demo. I really was never interested in this game because I've NEVER seen a good RTS on a console, they're just not made for a controller. So how does Halo Wars get around this? I must admit, fairly well.
Simply put, the way Halo Wars makes the game controller friendly is it is a fairly dumbed down RTS. There is no resource gathering, and using the RB and LB shoulder buttons you can select either all your troops or the troops on screen.
Also, building your base is utterly brainless and, honestly, not very interesting. Every base is the same, and it has "expansion slots" where you choose to build something. Be it a warehouse to bring you in resources, or an infantry center to build troops. There's also the usual tech center, vehicle center, air center, etc. Pretty basic stuff. Bases are also very easy to destroy. Oh and you get 4 "turret slots", no more, no less, where you can build a turret (always in the same place).
The rest is very similar to any other RTS. You build units and go kill your enemy. The game seems designed for people (see: the FPS crowd) that have never played a RTS before and to maybe get the genre some popularity on consoles.
Using this simplified action oriented setting it actually works on the console. Is it a great game? Not really. Is it fun? Sure, to a point. I don't foresee myself buying this game, but I still think it's a good try for the console RTS genre. And like I said here, http://www.therandomlol.com/article.cfm?articleID=29 try something new. You just might like it.
If you do end up liking Halo Wars, I urge you to play the best RTS ever created. Star Craft.
So whaddya think about Halo Wars?

I thought the demo kinda sucked, cause it was more hyped than ODST. The trailers looked freaking awesome, but when the actual game came around, it was too easy even with the unit limitations. At the end of the second mission, I had 35 out of the maximum 30 troops (which won't really make sense unless you play the game) and they pretty much raped the s!!t out of any Covenant in their way...even the drop ships (wtf...)Although this game would make a good filler arc, it doesn't feel like it's worth the 60 bucks so go ahead and find somewhere to rent it at, so at least you know what happens.

Yeah was definitely easy on the campaign. I even beat a skirmish on heroic on the first try. I think it's more about, in the same way all Halo games are, the multiplayer, which I didn't try because it seemed kinda lame.
